How should Manchester United line up against Sevilla in the Europa League?

On Thursday, Manchester United will face Sevilla in the Europa League, and our writers have shared their starting lineups.

On Thursday night, Manchester United host Sevilla in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final at Old Trafford.

United have already defeated Barcelona and Real Betis in the Europa League this season, and they are heavy favorites to win the competition for the second time since it was rebranded.

Sevilla has struggled this season, finishing in the bottom half of La Liga. They recently fired Jorge Sampaoli and replaced him with Jose Luis Mendilibar, who has managed multiple teams in Spain throughout his career.

Casemiro is available for selection, but Marcus Rashford, who has 28 goals this season, suffered an injury against Everton last weekend and is out through injury, as is Luke Shaw.

How should Manchester United line up against Sevilla…

Bruno Fernandes was so effective against Everton that it’s worth keeping him in a deeper role to help United’s attack. Casemiro must start, and Marcel Sabitzer has excelled in an advanced role, so United has a dynamic midfield to choose from against a team they should be able to beat easily.

Raphael Varane must return, but the rest of the back four should remain unchanged. In Rashford’s absence, Martial must start because United can play a front three with each player playing in their preferred position.

Although a previously unthinkable battle between Dalot and Wan-Bissaka emerged in the second half of this season, the latter still lacks attacking quality, which will be required against a struggling La Liga side.

Casemiro would have been available for this game regardless, but now that he’s served his domestic suspension, his return to the starting lineup can’t come soon enough.

Martial has been in full training for over four weeks, and Ten Hag has finally confirmed that he is fit to begin. The forward has been handled with care, but given Rashford’s absence, he must start here.
