Jude Bellingham, a Liverpool and Real Madrid target, has admitted that becoming England captain is his greatest ambition.
This season, Bellingham, 19, became the Bundesliga’s youngest captain. He also became the UEFA Champions League‘s youngest captain to score.
The English midfielder’s greatest ambition, however, is to wear the armband for the Three Lions. He said after England’s 2-0 win over Ukraine at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (March 27):
“I think captaining your country would be the greatest dream and greatest honor in football.”
Bellingham may have to wait his turn, as Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire, and Declan Rice appear to be captains ahead of him. “There’s a long pecking order, which I highly respect, and I’ll wait my turn,”
the adolescent understands. Meanwhile, it’s picking up on what I can learn from it (more senior players). This is the best location for it.”
The Dortmund midfielder was at his best yet again as Gareth Southgate’s side defeated Ukraine 2-0. England remained undefeated in Group C of their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying group, thanks to goals from Kane and Bukayo Saka. In their first match, they defeated Italy 2-1 away for the first time since 1961.
Bellingham will now focus on club football, and as we approach the summer, the race to sign him is on. Liverpool and Real Madrid are the frontrunners to entice him away from Signal Iduna Park. Manchester City and Manchester United, on the other hand, are interested in one of Europe’s hottest commodities.
