MANCHESTER UNITED REPORTED A NET PROFIT OF 6.3 MILLION POUNDS ($7.77 MILLION) IN ITS SECOND QUARTERLY FINANCIAL RESULT ON THURSDAY.
The English Premier League club, which is being pursued for acquisition, has released its key financial figures for the three months ending December 31, 2022.
United’s total revenue was 167.3 million pounds, a 9.8% decrease from the previous year.
While the club’s commercial revenues of 78.7 million pounds were up 22.2% year on year, broadcasting and matchday revenues were down.
Broadcasting was 58.7 million pounds, a 32.1% decrease.
Matchday revenue was 29.9 million pounds, a 13.6% decrease.
United stated that broadcasting revenues were down “primarily due to the men’s first team participating in the UEFA Europa League versus the UEFA Champions League the previous year.”
Due to playing two fewer home games than in the previous period, matchday revenue was down.
United’s non-current borrowings remained unchanged year on year at $650 million, but the difference in the British-American exchange rate had an impact on that debt when converted to pounds sterling.
The exchange rate increased from 1.3486 on December 31, 2021 to 1.2040 on December 31, 2022, resulting in an increase in United’s debt in pounds sterling from 477.1 million pounds to 535.7 million pounds year on year.
The Glazer family, United’s owners, announced in November that they were looking into “strategic alternatives,” including the sale of the 20-time English champion.
The leading bidders were local boy-turned-billionaire Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to the publicly declared bids.
