Man United ‘s summer pursuit of on-loan midfielder Marcel Sabitzer could hinge on Bayern Munich lowering their asking price.
Sabitzer has impressed on loan at Old Trafford since being signed by Erik ten Hag in the January transfer window as a replacement for United’s then-injured midfield.
Since then, the 29-year-old has remained in a three-man midfield, scoring both goals in United’s 2-2 Europa League draw with Sevilla on Thursday.
However, Bayern Munich is now reportedly demanding more than £20 million for the Austrian, a fee that United is currently unwilling to pay, according to The Sun.
Ten Hag wants to continue his overhaul of his Red Devils squad, which has seemingly overachieved this season, having won one trophy and remaining in the FA Cup and Europa League.
However, transfer funds are expected to be limited as United attempts to comply with financial fair play regulations and a bidding war for an ownership takeover continues.
Sabitzer wants to join United on a permanent basis after previously struggling to get consistent minutes under ex-Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann.
He recently stated that he was enjoying his time at Old Trafford, stating:
‘It’s a loan with no options. The situation will be reviewed in the summer.
‘However, I can say that I’ve found my place here. Now that I’ve experienced the Premier League, I can say there’s nothing better, more intense, or more difficult.
‘Every game is a battle. It is the world’s best league. When you play here once, you know it’s unrivaled,’ he added.
Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has since taken over, but the German giants are said to be open to letting the midfielder leave in the summer if they receive a respectable offer.
Sabitzer has thrived since making a last-ditch move to the English Premier League, and the two clubs will be hoping to agree on a fee for his services.
He has made 13 appearances for United in all competitions, starting the last three Premier League games and is set to start again away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
