On Friday night, the Qatari proposal for Manchester United remained unfulfilled, but insiders close to the group were sure that it would be arriving.
It was expected that the team working on an offer from Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani will make their proposal before Friday’s closing of business.
Nevertheless, it did not arrive in the United States until late Friday night.
Sportsmail knows that the offer is on its way and that the final details are being worked out. Raine, the US merchant bank in charge of the process, has provided further time beyond Wednesday night’s initial’soft’ deadline, and will await the bid’s arrival.
But, the delay has done little to improve the Qatar group’s chances. The counter-offer from Ineos chief executive Sir Jim Ratcliffe was filed on Thursday, after they were also granted an extension.
According to those close to the process, the Glazer family, who control United, has set a price for the club. But, there is still danger that they would demand an exorbitant figure in excess of £6 billion.
The Ratcliffe bid was estimated to be approximately £5 billion, and the Qatar offer, when it is made public, is anticipated to be comparable.
Raine Group has received many bids for a minority investment in the club, which would allow the Glazers to refurbish or rebuild Old Trafford and the team’s training facility while maintaining ultimate control.
Former AC Milan owners Elliott Investment Management has made one of those approaches, having previously given money to parties looking to acquire the club.
Those that have placed bids should hear back within seven days.
