Manchester United and Real Madrid are reportedly set to battle it out for the signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta BC in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old forward has attracted interest from several clubs, with speculation surrounding his future intensifying. Hojlund joined Atalanta from Sturm Graz only last August, but he has made a strong impression in his debut season in Italian football, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 28 appearances across all competitions. He has also made a remarkable start to his international career, scoring five goals in his first four appearances for Denmark, including a hat-trick and a brace in their March fixtures against Finland and Kazakhstan.
Atalanta has reportedly set a £62m asking price for Rasmus Hojlund, who is under contract with the club until the end of the 2026-27 season.
According to BT, Manchester United and Real Madrid are the two clubs that have shown concrete interest in the Danish forward ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, with both teams submitting a letter of interest to demonstrate their clear intention to secure his services.
Hojlund has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 26 Serie A appearances this season, helping Atalanta to sixth place in the table, only four points behind fourth-placed AC Milan.
In January, the 20-year-old expressed his admiration for Manchester United, stating that he was “a huge Manchester United fan” amid speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.
Sport Witness reported that when asked about his potential move to Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund stated that he is “a huge Manchester United fan” and that it would be a significant achievement for him personally.
However, he also mentioned that he would not decline offers from other significant clubs if they come in the future.
Hojlund began his professional career with Copenhagen and then moved on to Sturm Graz, where he scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 21 appearances before joining Atalanta. Real Madrid is reportedly looking for a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema, who is expected to leave the Bernabeu at the end of next season. Meanwhile, Manchester United will sign at least one striker this summer to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated at the end of last year.
