Tottenham has given Manchester United a boost in their pursuit of Harry Kane

Manchester United want to sign Harry Kane this summer, and Spurs’ turmoil could work in their favor.

Harry Kane possesses nearly all of the characteristics required to be one of the greatest strikers of the modern era. He has the ability to score with either foot and with his head. He can create chances and win games on his own. The only thing he is missing is a club with the same aspirations.

No matter how many goals the 29-year-old scores in the future, his lack of trophies will always be an issue. He won’t be able to address that issue until next year, even after a record-breaking international break.

“The individual honors are well deserved and incredible. “But he wants to be part of a successful team,” Gareth Southgate said after presenting the forward with a golden boot on Sunday.

Kane, who is in the final year of his Tottenham contract, will have to make a big decision this summer. The captain must decide whether he will finally seek a new challenge elsewhere, or whether he will stay put, potentially committing his entire senior career to the North London club.

He is guilty of condoning Tottenham’s past transgressions and is a loyal servant of a club known for failing, even when expectations defy expectations under the brilliance of Mauricio Pochettino.

They are currently without a manager and face another trophy-less season after exits from all cup competitions. They are also in an uncertain battle for a top-four finish.

No matter how confident chairman Daniel Levy is, it will take some convincing to convince Kane that staying at a club that has gone 15 years without a trophy is his best chance of winning something.

Conte was Tottenham’s seventh full-time manager since the club last won a trophy in 2008.

A lot could hinge on who the eighth is. Kane may be tempted to stay by a reunion with Pochettino, given his fond memories of working with him, while links with Julian Nagelsmann may also provide hope for a bright future.

None, however, may be as enticing as a move to United, managed by Erik ten Hag, who have already ended their six-year trophy drought and could win two more by the end of the season.

After becoming England’s all-time leading scorer, it appears that United or even Newcastle are his only options if he wants to win the Premier League in addition to Tottenham.

Eddie Howe’s side certainly have the financial clout to compete for a deal, and would be far more appealing if they qualified for the Champions League, but United are still likely to be viewed as a safer bet for success.

Tottenham are back where they started in their search for a new manager, going in circles, whereas United appear to have finally turned a corner.

Ten Hag’s top striker target as he enters the final year of his contract, but Tottenham is refusing to sell him to a Premier League rival and would rather risk losing him on a free transfer.

It creates an interesting dynamic, given that United wants to make new signings as soon as possible and needs to sign a proven scorer this summer, so can’t afford to wait another year.

If they don’t part ways this summer, Kane will turn 31 next season, and while he would be free to leave at the end of his contract, Tottenham might be in a better position to keep him.

It is a risk that Levy must weigh against the possibility of cashing in on Kane for a Premier League record fee this year.

Despite Tottenham’s inconsistency, Kane has proven to be a rock of consistency. As the club searches for a new manager, he seeks more goals and is only second in the Premier League this season to Erling Haaland.

He is the type of striker United require, and they are the type of club he requires as well.
